Mindanaoan Meets World
by: Maria Irene Aserios

Because of its proximity to Cagayan de Oro, its lovely landscapes, adventure parks, nature resorts and food outlets, Manolo Fortich is a favorite place for day trips. Over the years, Manolo Fortich has truly evolved from being the land of pineapples to an agro-tourism town. In fact, this first class Bukidnon municipality has been declared as one of the most competitive in the Philippines!

Just this week, my family and I decided to visit this town for the day.

First stop: the Del Monte Clubhouse for lunch. Famous for their steaks and roast beef, the Clubhouse has a laidback, old Americana feel. Non-golfers like me can stay here, admire the vast golfing green and enjoy delicious food. My family and I had the signature roast beef, roast pork and of course, Del Monte pineapple juice. The legendary roast beef is oh-so-amazingly tender – you just have to try this! Complete order, which comes with salads and soup, is only Php 375. Alas, the pineapple juice is already sold per glass (Php 35) and no longer bottomless.

Second stop: Kampo Juan, the eco-adventure home of the “Anicycle” or “Skybike.” Named in honor of Dr. Juan Acosta, one of the very few people I can truly call genius, and located at Barangay Dicklum, Kampo Juan is 2.3km off of the highway. There are lots to do and see here – hanging bridge, zipline, camp, stay at an eco-lodge, ride horses or swim at the pool. Their pavilion also has interesting stuff – from chairs made out of recycled tires to short bamboo pole scraps used as walls.

Third stop: Montegelo Farm (The Obrero Place). This is heaven for those with green thumbs. Lots of plants for sale here. The farm also has cabins, pool and even mini waterfalls. Just like Kampo Juan, this is a nice place for family outings and even corporate and school activities.

These are just 3 places you can visit at Manolo Fortich. Enough for you to enjoy a day at one of Bukidnon’s progressive towns. Do you have favorite places in Manolo Fortich? Do share them with me!

Meanwhile, I received a comment from a male reader of this column. Fred asks, “Can you recommend a bag for guys that’s not only good for travel but for everyday use, too?” Hi, Fred! Thanks for your question. I think you’ll like the Hedgren Carrier. It’s a functional, everyday bag that has sufficient compartments for essentials. This one is also easy to bring during travels. I also like that the strap has a nifty zippered section that lets you keep small but important things. Pretty cool design and style, too! Hedgren products are available at The Travel Club – Ayala Centrio. Thanks for writing!

Til next ish! See you at my Mindanaoan.com blog. Safe travels, everybody!
