COTABATO CITY – Health authorities Thursday expressed alarm over increasing number of dengue cases in North Cotabato. The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) in North Cotabato said from January to June this year, it has recorded a 50 percent increase on the number of dengue cases as compared to the same period last year.

Dr. Eva Rabaya, IPHO–North Cotabato chief, said that based on their monitoring, at least 1,000 dengue cases were recorded in North Cotabato’s 17 towns and a city. In 2014, IPHO recorded only 595 cases. In 2014, Midsayap has the highest number of dengue cases with four deaths.

From January to date, IPHO recorded at least four deaths due to complications arising from dengue. Two of the dengue deaths were from Alamada town and one each from Aleosan and Midsayap. Based on IPHO data, the number of dengue cases monitored for the first half of 2014 in North Cotabato was only 595, much lower than the 2,224 cases for the same period in 2013.
