This is the first-ever for the Department of Education in Region 10 to host such a national activity with global significance in Cagayan de Oro.

Education Secretary Leonor Briones is set to deliver the keynote speech in the afternoon’s program proper, after host regional director Arturo Bayocot’s introduction.

Briones is expected to expound this year’s theme, Gurong Pilipino: HandasaMakabagongPagbabago.

Mayor Oscar Moreno, whose administration has been recognized with seal of good education governance for three consecutive years, would formally welcome Briones, her party, and all other educators in his opening remarks.

Misamis Oriental Gov. YevgenyVincenteEmano, Educationd Undersecretary Tonisito Umali, and Metrobank Foundation president AnecitoSobrepeña, are gracing the occasion and will give their respective messages.

Included in the program proper are audio-visual presentations of Region 10 inspiring stories of GurongMagiting, the 26 Metrobank Outstanding Teacher Awardees of Region 10, recognition of notable teachers, and the turn-over of World Teachers Day 2019 commemorative stamps.

In the morning, the multi-layered routine includes a teachers’ got talent show, celebrity performances, dance sport, cheering competition, opening and ribbon-cutting rites for teachers’ fair booths, signing ceremonies, and health and wellness talk.

Today’s activity culminates this year’s month-long tributes to all persons who have proven their commitments in imparting knowledge and skills to the young.

In the occasion’s souvenir publication, a portion of Bayocot’s message states that “Deed Region  is delighted and privileged to host the 2019 National Teachers Day” and that the program is intended “to recognize, honor and thank all teachers for their significant contribution to building this country and the whole world.”

The celebration is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 242 in 2011 which declared the first Friday of September to October 5, of every year, as National Teachers Month while Republic Act No. 10743 of 2016 declared the fifth day of October, of every year, as National Teachers Day.

These, after the United Nations Education, Science and Cultural Organizations (Unesco) declared Oct. 5 of every year as World Teachers Day in 1994.
