In a text message, 4ID spokesperson Capt. Jo Patrick Martinez said the term demilitarization “is a military term meaning to reduce military units, vehicles, or in this case, firearms.”

The 187 assorted firearms, Martinez said, were either “confiscated, captured, surrendered, or recovered guns” in the various combat operations within the division’s area of responsiblity.

The division’s Commanding General Maj. Gen. Oscar Lactao led the decommissioning of the loose guns during a demilitarization ceremony at Camp Camp Edilberto Evangelista in Barangay Patag, this city.

City Mayor Oscar Moreno, who graced the ceremony commended the Diamond troopers for destroying the loose guns and effectively stopping these from being used in the future by enemies of the state.

The decommissioning ceremony was also witnessed by the Army’s Eastern Command deputy commander Brig. Gen. Harold Cabreros.

Cabreros urged the 4ID troopers to come clean and surrender any loose firearms they may still be keeping for themselves. Loose firearms refer to guns with no proper documentation and license.
