Dibuho Inter-School Art Contest

Did you know that nutrition month is being observed every July?  In June 25, 1974, then President Ferdinand Marcos signed Presidential Decree No. 491 making the month of July would be observe as Nutrition Month.

The government recognizes that nutrition program is a vital and integral part of social reform and economic development.

Dibuho Art Collective, a new art organization in Cagayan de Oro responded to the need of promoting this year’s Nutrition Month theme which is “Ugaliing Magtanim, Sapat na Nutrition Aanihin” by organizing a On-The-Spot Painting Contest among public school student held  last Friday, July 20 from 10am to 5pm at the 2nd level Event Center of the Limketkai Mall.

With the support of the Department of Education CDO Division Superintendent Jonathan de la Peña a memo was circulated calling upon young talents in every Public School in this city to join.

The participating Schools who answered the call were; Bayabas Elementary School, Puerto Elementary School, Bulua Central, Puerto National High School, Iponan National High School,

CDO National High School, Camaman-an National High School, Bayabas High School, City High School, Balulang National High School, Pedro ‘Oloy’ N. Roa Senior High School and Lapasan High School.

A short art talk was conducted with Dibuho member artists Angelito Balmes, Leonil Bagayna, and me before the start of the competition, emphasizing the role of visual artists in portraying the advocacy through the canvass.

The winners in the Elementary category were LJ Khier D. Rivas of Bulua Central School (1^st place), Brent Cheruh R. Tero of Puerto Elementary School (2^nd place), and at third Jhamer B. Paragoso of Bayabas Elementary School.

Meanwhile, for the Secondary category winners were Miguel Cecelio Elican (1^st place) of Pedro N. Roa Senior High School, followed by Bob Jefferson Oghayon and Jade G. Rapal  respectively, both from Puerto National High School.
