DIGOS City — The Bureau of Fire Protection office here has responded to at least 16 fire incidents that occurred in its area of responsibility from January to March of this year.
Senior Insp. Carlos Gallego, BFP Digos acting city fire marshal in a report submitted to the BFP Regional Office-11, said the concerted efforts of the local BFP, the local government of Digos City and other volunteer groups to educate the people in the community about fire prevention has created awareness and vigilance that turned into a big factor in avoiding the occurrence of huge fire.
The scarcities of rains have triggered four grass fires in February due to unattended bonfire, garbage and improper disposal of smoking material. An electric post accidentally caught fire but incurred minimal damage due to immediate response from the fire bureau.
Gallego has urged residents to make all the necessary steps in preventing the occurrence of fire that could trigger huge losses of properties or even lives.
“We must adhere to the reminders issued by the Bureau of Fire Protection, especially at this time that we are within the summer months. It is more advantageous to be vigilant than practicing laxity,” Gallego said.
