EX-MAYOR Vicente Emano yesterday “accepted” Mayor Oscar Moreno’s challenge for his son to run for Cagayan de Oro mayor next year.

But here’s the catch: the elder Emano said that at the end of the day, it was still the call of his son Yevgeny Vincente, the governor of Misamis Oriental.

“Dawaton kana namo nga challenge apan respu-tihan og magdepende kini sa desisyon unya ni Gov. Bambi,” he said over radio station Magnum.

The 76-year old former Misamis Oriental governor and former Cagayan de Oro mayor said his daughter Councilor Nadya Elipe could also be fielded during the 2019 mayoral race if that would mean ending the corruption allegedly taking place at city hall.

The aging founding leader of the Padayon Pilipino counted himself out of next year’s mayoral race, saying that he no longer has the financial resources to run against Moreno.

“Nasayop ako sa dihang mayor pa kay wala maka-pangawkaw sa sapi sa katawhan aron matigum sa pagdagan sa sunod nga pili-ay,” said Emano.

Emano’s on-air pronouncements were a response to Moreno’s “invitation” for the younger Emano to run for Cagayan de Oro mayor. The mayor has repeatedly been blaming the graft cases filed against him on the Emanos.

The elder Emano strongly denied that he and his family members had a hand in the cases.

He said a set of cases against Moreno was filed by Antonio Nuñez and another by former Taglimao barangay chairman William Guialani.

“Ngano kami man ang pasanginlan? Tan-awon niya kung kinsa ang nagsunod-sunod sa iyang mga kaso og tan-awon niya kinsa ang maka-benepisyo sa iyang pagkatangtang,” he said.
