Former Cagayan de Oro Mayor Vicente Emano died at the Capitol University Medical City at around midnight. Emano’s son Yevgeny Vincente, Misamis Oriental’s governor, confirmed his father’ death over Magnum Radio this morning.

Details have remained unclear at presstime. The elder Emano also served as mayor of Tagoloan town, and subsequently as governor of the province. In 1998, he was elected Cagayan de Oro mayor.

After serving three consecutive terms, he served as vice mayor for three years, and then he was elected mayor again in 2010. He lost the mayoral post to now Mayor Oscar Moreno in 2013. Emano was the dominant political force in this part of the country for over two decades.
