Livestock raisers from the provinces of Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental convened during a Livestock Stakeholders’ Forum on August 18, through which they were encouraged to apply for Good Animal Husbandry Practices (GAHP) certification.

Agribusiness Industry Support Section Chief Sonia E. Oliveros emphasized that GAHP certification will enable livestock raisers to compete with other agribusinesses since it sets out the standard quality of livestock products that meet the consumers’ expectation for safe and healthy food.

“GAHP certification is already a trade language and more importantly, it gives assurance to our consumers that we are producing food that is safe for consumption,” Oliveros said.

Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (BAFS) Regional Focal Person Arlene Culgue presented the scope, objectives and, compliances for GAHP certification.

GAHP was established pursuant to the Republic Act No. 10611 also known as the Food Safety Act of 2003.

This forum was spearheaded by the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD) of the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10) aimed to provide participants the updates on the agency’s thrusts on the livestock industry, discuss issues and concerns, and raise suggestions and recommendations.
