Earth Week Celebration in Cagayan de Oro culminated last April 30, 2019 at Limketkai Mall. Earth Day or Week is an annual event celebrated every April 22 and continued for a whole week around the world by environmental advocates and concern citizens to show support and demonstrate environmental protection.

More than 193 countries all over the world participate in this festivities by setting up info campaigns in Universities and public places, organize concerts and encourage people to be part in this advocacy.

Local Initiative for Holistic Upbringing of Knowledge (L.I.H.U.K.) a local advocacy group in Cagayan de Oro City who have been instrumental in promoting eco bricks making in the Northern Mindanao area have now spearheaded the earth jam in the mall. A whole day activity where eco warriors entrepreneurs have showcased their alternative products solutions for plastics, participating on the eco bazaar are: Happy Earth Store a one stop shop for alternative living. Happy Earth have wild honey, bamboo eye glasses and delicious dried blueberries among other things.

Lunhaw PH offers reusable bamboo straws and bamboo cutleries. Saku Bags offers a classy up cycle sling bag. Hands at Work showcased beautiful hand crafted dream catchers while Dire Husi Initiatives, Inc. showcased handcrafted necklaces and accessories. Spikes and Everything Nice offers beautiful succulents, Bamboo Ph with their bamboo made products and Lutyako with their nutritious taro chips.

The bazaar attracted curiosity among eco local consumers about practical application on helping the environment. A band performance was offered as highlight during the one day activity. Dhassig band, who is now releasing their self-produced first album have played ethno fusion music to the amazement of the crowed, this was then followed by the CJ Kaamiño Band who is a finalist in the national FILSCAP Songwriters Night VIII and was capped by a local alternative band, the ToneSick.

A one day activity showcasing love for the planet have rippled to the hearts of the mall goers of Limketkai Mall. Stewardship and doing something good for our planet is not only for the advocates but for everybody. If we will not commit in changing our lifestyle in using single use plastics, 10 years from now we will reap viciously what we have sown today.
