HUMAN rights watchdog Karapatan on Wednesday criticized the spokesman of Camp Alagar who asserted that there are no cases of extrajudicial killings in the region.

In a statement, Fr. Khen Apus of Karapatan-Northern Mindanao said Camp Alagar spokesperson Supt. Surki Sereñas should not hide behind “legalese jargon” to belie the murders that have been taking place in the region.

He pointed out that there have been some 22 thousand people, labelled as drug suspects, killed in the two years of the Duterte administration’s “war on drugs.”

Apus said there are courts that should deal and decide on the drug suspects the police apprehend during buy-and-bust operations.

Apan kung aduna nay summary execution, ug uban pa, EJK na kana,” he argued, adding that the term “extrajudicial killings” should not absolve the police of its accountability.
