FORMER mayor Vicente Emano would be making history as the first and only Cagayan de Oro mayor ever voted out of city hall to reclaim the seat three years later if he succeeds in his campaign in next year’s elections.

And if he makes it, Emano would also hold the record as the oldest politician to pull off the feat in the history of Cagayan de Oro––he would be 75 years old by March next year.

Emano would be fielding six new candidates for city council seats under his ticket as he attempts to take back the control of city hall from Mayor Oscar Moreno in the 2016 elections.

But except for the mayoral race, no one could say exactly who would run for what position next year under the Padayon Pilipino, the party that has been dominating the city’s legislature for nearly decades now.

Expect the announcement to come at the eleventh hour––on the day or even a day before the filing of the certificates of candidacy––as Emano did in the past elections, according to Councilor Leon Gan.

Neither can anyone in the Padayon Pilipino say exactly who would be fielded by Emano for congressmen in the 1st and 2nd Districts, said Councilor Alexander Dacer.

Emano’s on-air declaration on Sunday that he would run for mayor again despite Moreno’s convincing win in the 2013 elections did not come as a surprise because Councilor Dacer confirmed as early as June that the ex-mayor would seek the city’s top post again.

Emano, the first incumbent Cagayan de Oro mayor to be voted out of city hall, lost to Moreno by over 17 thousand votes in 2013. If he wins next year, Emano would be making history as the first mayor in the city to be voted back to city hall three years after he was booted out via balloting.

Dacer said Emano’s declaration over radio station Mellow Touch that he would run for mayor again came after over 50 barangay chairpersons in the city submitted a manifesto that asked the ex-mayor to stage a comeback.

The manifesto was given to the Padayon Pilipino during a meeting at a resort in Taguanao on Saturday. Dacer said an official declaration would be made by Emano on Sept. 20.

He said he learned that Emano already has a complete set of candidates under his 2016 ticket, including those who would replace the Padayon Pilipino members who are serving their third and last office terms in the city council. The councilors who are constitutionally barred from seeking reelection next year are Dacer, Ramon Tabor, Alden Bacal, President Elipe, Dante Pajo, and Adrian Barba.

Padayon Pilipino members who may still seek reelection next year are Councilors Gan, Edna Dahino, Annie Daba, Dometilo Acenas, and Nadya Elipe.
