Misamis Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano expressed his full support for the resumption of peace talks between the government and leftist forces even as he announced the suspension of work on infrastructure projects situated in areas of the province threatened by the on-going clashes between the two forces.

“We are disturbed by several reports of encounters, especially in the eastern port of the province. We have lost our momentum in the various development of projects, aside from being a setback to our tourism promotion programs,”  Emano said.

He added it is only through the resumption of peace talks that will bring about a lasting peace in the country as a whole and Misamis Oriental in particular.

“Peace, stability and confidence on our government cannot be achieved while guns and cannons are fired,” the Governor said.

He added, that after a huge capital investment in equipment and a thorough planning on prioritization, the province is ready to go full speed ahead with its more significant projects.

However, he was emphatic that safety of the lives of workers on those involve in the projects is a more serious concern than anything else.

“There (are) no ifs and buts when in comes to (the) lives of our people who may be at risk,” Emano said.

Work on several infrastructure projects have been suspended since two weeks ago before the escalation of hostilities. (pio misor)
