BUTUAN City — Joint operatives from San Francisco Municipal Police Office, Agusan del Sur Provincial Police Public Safety Command, and the 13th Caraga Regional Police Public Safety Battalion killed a 50-year old civil engineer who worked at the Municipality of Lapaz here after he allegedly fired at the police who were carrying a search warrant issued by a local court.

San Francisco police chief Insp. Sandro Bantad Santillan identified the victim as Engr. Bertram Bokingo De Leon, 50, resident of Purok 4A, Barangay 3, San Francisco, Agusan del Sur. Santillan added De Leon was listed as a high-value target.

De Leon was Project Development Officer II of La Paz, Agusan del Sur.

Police said joint police operatives went to the residence of De Leon to serve search warrant but the suspect allegedly pulled his gun and fired at the police prompting the latter to fire back which eventually killed De Leon.

However, the relatives of the victim claimed otherwise saying De Leon was silent type that while admitting maybe have already been a shabu user, it was very impossible for De Leon to pull a gun and shoot it out with the police.

The police, for their part, said they were surprised that De Leon pulled out his .45 cal pistol and fired it at them who were only there to serve the search warrant.

Seized from De Leon’s possession were four grams of suspected shabu contained in nine plastic sachets estimated to be worth P47,200.

Aside from suspected shabu, cops also seized the caliber 45 pistol used by De Leon, a 1911 US Army Colt bearing serial number 674897; one live ammunition, and one .45 cal clip.

The police brought De Leon’s remains to the Dollete Funeral Homes in San Francisco.
