Melchora “Mimi” Ermino, past president of JCI Bai Lawanen Inc., donated children’s books to Malasag Elementary School in Barangay Cugman, Cagayan de Oro on Jan. 15.

The school is the beneficiary of the Rotary Club of Kalayaan Cagayan de Oro’s flagship project, the Adopt-a-Barangay Elementary School under which is the Share-a-Meal weekly feeding program that has been ongoing since 2004.

Mimi was a Grade 2 teacher in the US but has since retired, and RC Kalayaan CDO is definitely grateful that she has chosen the Club as a conduit for her advocacy in serving the community. This was her second time to donate books for the school. The first one was on Sept. 4, 2015 during the club project visit of Rotary International District 3870’s District Governor Leopoldo Ochia when she gave training aids for the teachers. She was in the US then.

RC Kalayaan CDO was chartered on Feb. 10, 1999 with the wish of its Charter President Rosalinda Deleste of making the Club as the next organization for the “graduating” Bai Lawanen Jaycees once they have reached the maximum Jaycee age or have become JCI senators, whichever comes first.

At present, the Adopt a Barangay Elementary School is chaired by Joy Tabor, and only nine—eight of whom are charter members, including Joy and me—of the Club’s 46 members are from JCI Bai Lawanen, with Gean Cesar expected to make that to ten once she is inducted next month. Gean, Joy, Linda, and Mimi are all past presidents of JCI Bai Lawanen. (pr)
