Former radio ‘blocktimer’ nabbed for cyber libel

POLICE arrested a former radio blocktimer for cyber libel in Barangay Iponan here yesterday morning.

Senior Insp. Breccia Ruth Deloso Townend said a joint team of officers arrested Siegfred “Jigs” Padua, 48, of Purok 5, Barangay Tablon, in Barangay Iponan, this city, at around 9 am.

Authorities said the arrest of Padua was based on a warrant of arrest for libel in relation to Section 4(c) (4) of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 issued by Executive Judge Dennis Alcantar of Regional Trial Court Branch 18.

Ritchie Salloman, president of the Cagayan de Oro Press Club, said Padua’s arrest was not related to mainstream media work.

It was because of a post on Facebook that offended a principal of a public school in Lumbia.

Padua was reportedly detained at Macasandig police station. His bail bond was set at P72 thousand. (Nitz Arancon)
