COUNCILOR Maria Lourdes Gaane, chair of the City Council committee on health and health insurance, lauded the efforts of health workers who have been on the frontline of the mass immunization drive in the city.

This, as the Department of Health (DOH) in coordination with the City Health Office conducted outbreak response immunization in different barangays and malls last week.

It may be recalled that Mayor Oscar Moreno together with Councilors Gaane, Edgar Cabanlas, Roger Abaday led the kick-off campaign for “Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio” on Nov. 26.

The massive vaccination campaign conducted by the health workers is part of the first round of oral polio vaccination. The second round will be on Jan. 6 to 18, 2020.

The city aims to vaccinate over 105,000 children and expects to reach 95-percent or more immunization coverage within two weeks.  Children ages zero to 59 months are eligible for the Oral Polio Vaccine Type 2 (OPV2).

Gaane reiterated that parents should participate in the synchronized polio vaccination to prevent their children from the transmission of the disease.

Gaane said through collaborative efforts, children will be protected and no one will be infected with polio.

Daghang salamat sa tanang miduyog sa atong kampanya kontra polio,” said Gaane. (sp)
