SOLDIERS from the Army’s 58th Infantry Battalion clashed with a still undetermined number of New People’s Army rebels in Sitio Anahaw, Barangay Bantawan in Gingoog City at around 6 am Wednesday.

Officials said the soldiers acted on a tip from a concerned citizen who reported sighting a group of armed men in his village.

Capt. Leoden Bajado, 58th IB civil military officer, said the soldiers responded on the tip and conducted a security patrol in the area.

Bajado said the communist guerrillas also encountered members of a Citizens’ Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) that launched their own security patrol.

Bajado said no one was hurt from both sides after nearly an hour of exchange of firepower. (Nitz Arancon)
