BUTUAN City – Nineteen (19) individual farmers and three (3) farmer organizations were made recipients of the more than one P1 million worth of livestock in the province of Surigao del Norte, recently.

In an information sent by Ms. Emmelou Preselda, DA-13 regional information officer to the media outlets here on Thursday, she said that a total of 15 native chickens, 25 carabaos, 4 heads of cattle, 26 goats and 5 swines amounting to P1.179 million were turned over to the said farmer-beneficiaries as part of DA’s animal dispersal program.

A farmer-beneficiary commented that DA’s dispersal program truly helped traditional farmers like him in their daily farming activities. According to him, entrusting them with the animals surely motivates them to do better, Preselda said.

Surigao del Norte Governor Sol Matugas was also reported to have said that DA has been their partner in helping the farmers in achieving food sufficiency not only in her province but even the whole region. The animal dispersal program is geared towards sustainable increase in livestock and poultry productivity in their province.

Dr. Life Sheila Largo, provincial veterinarian, also said that the “beneficiaries must be responsible in raising these animals in order to sustain the program and produce another batch of similar beneficiaries in the future.”

The recipients are coming from the different municipalities of the province including the farmers for island municipalities of Siargao and Socorro.

The turnover ceremony was spearheaded by the officials of the DA-13 headed by Dr. Joey Ronquillo and Gov. Matugas assisted by Vice Governor Carlos Egay, provincial board members and agriculturists. pna
