Police investigator Rolly Embog of the El Salvador police, identified the victims as 58-year-old widow Necel Lomboy and Jade Mateo.

A third victim, 13-year-old Jundel Lomboy, was rushed to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center due to a fractured foot.

Embog said Lomboy and her grandchildren were crossing the dimly lit highway when an Isuzu MUX, bearing license plates ACV-5753 and driven by Heligarde de Pedro Jr., 37, of Iligan accidentally hit them.

“Namatay dihadiha ang lola ug usa niya ka apo tungod sa kusog nga impact. Ang usa ka bata tiil lang ang injury,” Embog said.

Embog said the de Pedro was heading for Iligan from Bukidnon when the accident happened.

The driver was detained but was later released because family members of the victims agreed to a settlement.

Embog said the family accepted the offer that all the burial and medical expenses would be shouldered by de Pedro.
