Murang Kuryente Partylist on Monday affirmed its support for renewable sources of energy as a way of driving energy prices down and empowering Filipinos against electric companies.

The partylist hit the DOE’s inability to rein in power companies and the continued reliance on coal-fired power plants by the power sector.

“We are not for renewable energy for the sake of renewable energy. It is cleaner, better, and more reliable than coal, and it gives power back to consumers through microgrids and lower costs for large plants,” said MKP nominee Gerry Arances.

To commemorate Earth Day, advocacy groups led by Murang Kuryente Partylist (MKP) marched through the Quezon Memorial Circle en route to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to call on the government to favor environmentally sustainable projects across different sectors.

MKP will end the Earth Day events with a concert in the evening, together with national and local candidates who share their advocacy.

MKP wants the DENR to stop issuing environmental compliance clearances (ECC) to coal-fired power plant projects, which are expensive, unreliable, and harmful to the environment.

“The DENR plays a big role in changing the current reality that we are at the mercy of these unreliable coal plants and the companies who make billions out of them,” he added. (PR)
