Health, aggie bodies to review Meat Inspection Code of 2018

THE City Council committees on health and sanitation and health insurance and on agriculture and fisheries respectively chaired by Councilors Maria Lourdes Gaane and Annie Daba convened last week to discuss the proposed ordinance provisions for the Meat Inspection Code 2018 of Cagayan de Oro.

The proposed code was created to ensure food security and provide safety and quality standards for consumer products related to agriculture to assure the protection of the public against unreasonable risks of injury and hazards to the health.

It also aims to promulgate specific policies and procedures governing the flow of food animals, meat and meat products through the various stages of processing, marketing and the proper preservation and inspection of such products.

During the meeting, Dr. Perla Asis of City Veterinary Office recalled that a Technical Working Group was created to review and study the proposed code.

The TWG is composed of representatives of the City Veterinary Office, City Legal Office, City Health Office, J.R. Borja General Hospital, Department of Interior and Local Government, City Treasurer’s Office, City Budget Office, City Accounting Office, Human Resource Management Office, National Meat Inspection Service, City Agriculture Office, Mega and Gamma stakeholders.

A representative of HRMO said the provisions on the staffing pattern of the proposed code was already reviewed.

She said some position titles  to be created should be based on the index of occupational services.

“We cannot just create a position title nga wala nareflect sa atong index”, she said.

Daba said Dr. Asis should  discuss the staffing part of the proposed code with the  HRMO.

The joint committee referred the proposed legislation back to the City Veterinary Office and to the City Legal Office for the slaughterhouse collection fees. (cli)
