CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao — Thirteen high-powered loose firearms were handed-over to the 1st Mechanized Infantry Battalion by the local government of Datu Salibo, Maguindanao recently.

The firearms were turned over in a ceremony during the Muncipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) meeting led by Mayor Norodin Salasal held at SSB Hall, Brgy. Sambulawan in Datu Salibo, Maguindanao. It was received by 601st Deputy Brigade Commander Col. Joel Abregana and 1st Mechanized Infantry Battalion Commander Lt. Col. James Fernando.

The ceremony was witnessed by Maguindanao OIC Provincial Director Police Senior Superintendent Ronald Briones, Datu Salibo Vice-Mayor Ingkong Mamantal, ABC President, Barangay chairmen of 17 barangays of Datu Salibo, and other constituents who were present during the MPOC meeting.

Handed loose firearms were one 7.62 Barrett sniper rifle, one cal. 30, one rocket propelled grenade launcher, one 7.62mm M14 rifle (modified), one 9mm (KG9), one  cal. 9mm UZI, and seven M79 grenade launcher.

The owner of firearms decided to surrender not only to support the government’s campaign against loose firearms but also to avoid being charged of illegal possession of firearms.

Mayor Salasal said that the firearms handed over to the authorities will contribute greatly in achieving a peaceful and promote a friendly society in Datu Salibo.

The recent accomplishment was the result of intensified efforts of 57th Infantry Battalion with the continuous cooperation of the local government of Datu Salibo and its barangay officials.

“The voluntary hand over of loose firearms is one of the good signs of promoting peace in Datu Salibo and the society as well,” said Fernando. (with reports from dpao 1d)
