BUTUAN City– Some P500 thousand peso worth of illegally transported hardwood were intercepted on July 30, 2015  placed inside a van carried by a cargo truck along national highway in Barangay Cuevas, Trento, Agusan del Sur near boundaries of Comval and Agusan del Sur provinces.

Trento, Agusan del Sur the last town of Agusan del Sur going to Davao and Comval provinces is about 130 kilometers away from here in Butuan City.

It can be recalled that President Aquino issued Executive Order 23 banning the cutting and transporting any hardwood species at present by the government however said executive order also outlined exemptions especially on planted wood species.

Report from Trento Municipal Police Station to Police Regional Office-13 here claimed operatives from Trento Municipal Police Station, Agusan del Sur Provincial Police Office, 133rd Regional Police Safety Command (RPSC), 13th Regional Public Safety Board (RPSB) and DENR Anti-illegal Logging Task Force intercepted the hot lumber cargoes contained inside a closed wing van.

Authorities who intercepted the hot lumbers claimed the closed wing van cargo truck bore plate number RLZ 134 and was driven by Isebro Paña, 28, from Bunawan, Poblacion, Davao City and helper Joemarie Narag, 28, residing at P-10, Valencia City, Bukidnon.

The truck was estimated loaded with more or less 12,000 board feet of wood fletches during anti-illegal operation at Crossing Barangay Cuevas, Trento, Agusan del Sur.

Paña and Narag are now in the custody of Trento police while illegally cut forest products were brought to 133rd RPSC in Barangay Bunawan Brooks, Bunawan Agusan del Sur  for safekeeping.
