THE local chapter Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) has strongly condemned the red-tagging or labeling lawyer Beverly Musni and her daughters Czarina Musni and Beverly Ann Musni as communist rebels in flyers that were circulated in the city on Feb. 22.

A statement furnished to this paper and signed by IBF-Misamis Oriental officers reads in part: “The red-tagging and labeling of lawyers are sweeping statements, unfounded, malicious, misleading, and uncalled for, and if unabated, it will unduly undermine the practice of the legal profession to the detriment of society.”

The IBP also stated the accusations against the three lawyers were unfair and clearly baseless, and it could place their lives and profession at risk against individuals who are ideologically disposed to counteract persons identified as communists even without due process of the law.

IBP stood firm in its defense of the lawyers that they are law abiding citizens that have not committed any crime or any illegal acts that deserves the harshest condemnation.

Signing the March 1 statement were IBP-Misamis Oriental president Eddie Cuarema, vice president Cancio Nicanor Guibone, secretary Katrina Mordeno, treasurer Kenneth Timala, auditor Janeth Nuñez, PRO Dexter Precioso, and direcrors Teresa Quiñala Blanco, Rex Jose Raagas, Gregorio Miguel Pallugna, Anna Caroz, Georgina Sumicad-Huerbana, and immediate past president Rey Raagas.
