The city government recognized the striving recipients in getting their pensions.

Councilor Noli Pardillo, chair of the committee on senior citizens of the Sangguniang Panlingsod said that some of the pensioners waiting long to receive their pensions would just go home empty handed.

“This is due to discomforts while waiting,” said Pardillo.

Pardillo said at present, there are 5,225 seniors citizens receiving a monthly of P500 or a little more in the city.

These are for seniors who are indigent and who do not receive regular pensions.

Because of their numbers, they have been using the alphabetical method.

They will receive them from several cashiers assigned, at the senior citizens area at Palao.

They are not using the ATM cards for them as many of them do not know how to use them.

“The area there at Palao is not conducive to the health of these seniors,” Pardillo said as it is hot especially in these summer days.

There are tents set up but even then, these seniors still feel uncomfortable, he said.

He then enjoined the seniors on the list that they bring with them some water and a little food.

There had been incidents of recipients having fainting spells.

Next year, there will be some 1,500 additional recipients, Pardillo added and thus, the added discomfort for them.

He said that a total of P14 million is budgeted for them and which includes the pwd or persons with disabilities.

P10 m is for the seniors while P4 is for the persons with disabilities which constitute 1% of the city’s budget of P1.9 billion.

He said the Robinson’s Mall is being eyed for the next round of giving these cash benefits to them.

He added that the city will lose no time in arranging such a scheme for the seniors, as the area is large and cool. Thus the recipients will be very comfortable there, he said.
