SF01 Richard Cartin, officer-in-charge of the Investigation and Intelligence Section of the Iligan City fire station, said in an interview Wednesday afternoon that the fire started at 9:10 pm at Purok 1, Mangga, Barangay Tubod, this city.

He said the fire started at the house of one Sara Osop.

Osop, Cartin said, has a 29-year-old special child named Michael and he could have started the fire. The fire was put under control at 9:45 pm adding that the fire department of the city had a hard time fighting off the fire because paths leading to the buildings were narrow.

Other fire trucks that assisted in controlling the fire came from Tibanga, Villaverde, and Kiwalan, Cartin added.

The two, Michael and the mother Sara are now in a hospital for treatent of their injuries while the others who were affected by the fire are currently housed in the Barangay Tubod Elementary School gym.

The Osop house is a two-story semi-concrete affair where the Sara and her son lived on the second floor.

Cartin added that there were six structures that were totally damaged in the area with two slightly damaged. As of press time, the damage has been placed at P300,000.

The City of Social Welfare Services Department is currently attending to the needs of the evacuees, the fire investigator said.
