The officials were suspended for recognizing the then detained Mayor Celso Regencia as local chief executive and for authorizing him to transact and appoint city hall officials.

Cruz and the councilors did not contest the ombudsman’s decision that was served by the interior department in the afternoon of Jan. 4.

The others who reported back to work were councilors Samuel Huertas, Eric Capitan, Jesse Ray Balanay, Demosthenes Plando, Belinda Lim, Sorelie Bacsarpa, Ian uy, Randy Ryan Francis Ong,  Bernard Pacana, Petronilo  Pardillo, Renato Ancis and Diamla Rolando So-ong.

Regencia and the other city officials, employees and their supporters came to welcome the local officials back.

Even Foster Anayron, the DILG city officer, who served the Oct. 17, 2017 suspension order last month was around. Anayron, who has just retired from the government service, said he came as an “ordinary citizen.”

Cruz and the councilors heard mass before resuming their work at city hall.
