IN “Christopher Robin,” which will be shown in August 2018, Winnie-the-Pooh says, “People say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.”

“Winnie-the-Pooh” is a book written by A.A. Milne and was first published in 1926. Almost 100 years later and Winnie-the-Pooh still remains relevant. See how a book endures?

Reading one book may take 100 years if you’re checking out Facebook, playing video games and watching Netflix instead of reading that book. The usual movie, however, may take less than three hours to watch. So, between book and movie, the latter always wins if you don’t have time to read.

Well, let’s compare pa more. Water vs. soda. Yogurt vs. ice cream. Sen. Manny Pacquiao vs. Lucas Mathysse. This is not about the midterm elections—not yet, anyway. This is about rehydration and, yes, Sen. Pacquiao belongs there because as a boxer with multiple championship belts, he does know how to rehydrate.

At home, water may be from the faucet or the dispenser although for some areas in Cagayan de Oro last weekend, the faucet was as dry as the Sahara. If it’s 32 degrees Celsius and there’s no water… Whew.

By Monday afternoon, however, the weather went from hot and humid to lightning and thunderstorms. Ano ba talaga, Kuya? Confused much? Which can be you—confused—while watching a superhero movie if you’ve not watched any other superhero movie.

Spoiler alert! There’s this scene in “Deadpool 2” where the real Ryan Reynolds is reading the “Green Lantern” script and then, Deadpool, who’s played by Reynolds, shoots him in the head and says, “You’re welcome, Canada.” Reynolds is from Canada, in case you’re wondering. He also starred as “Green Lantern” in 2011, that’s where he met his now-wife Blake Lively, which could be the movie’s only redeeming quality because it was, hmmm, what’s the word? Boring.

Yup, a boring superhero movie. How is that possible?

Here’s another way to make the impossible possible. Janet Lim-Napoles. Does the name still ring a bell? If it doesn’t, let’s borrow “Deadpool 2” Cable’s time machine and Doctor Strange’s Time Stone to return to July 12, 2013 when Napoles and the P10-billion pork barrel scam became breaking news. All along we thought graft and corruption fled to Hawaii at the height of the 1986 People Power, and then, there’s the pork barrel scam to prove that it’s still possible.

For a while there, it did seem like Napoles would finally have a brighter future when she was placed under the Witness Protection Program but that has been removed as her perk and she’s now back to where the Pinoy believes she belongs.

The pork barrel scam might have been overtaken in popularity by the Marawi siege, “Tokhang,” extrajudicial killings, Boracay’s rehabilitation, Buhay Carinderia and the other reported shenanigans at the usually fun Department of Tourism, top it all off with the shock and awe heaped on the news that Tito Sotto is the new Senate President, but the scam should never be taken lightly. It should serve as a lesson for those attempting to steal from the national treasury.

It’s indeed alarming to learn that P500 and P1,500 were allegedly distributed for the recent barangay elections. The candidates who were giving away that much moolah would have to recoup that somehow in the future.

President Rody Duterte’s speeches that are often laden with p***ng in* and the way he has been firing government officials lately have not exactly stopped drug addicts from using drugs nor discouraged some government pehpohl from earning “commissions.” Perhaps the perks are way much higher than the fear of getting caught.

His administration, though, is bent on increasing government funds, through the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (Train), for its “Build, Build, Build” program, and of course there’s the skeptical and cynical Pinoy suspecting a certain percentage of these funds will be diverted into undeserving pockets.

The Train’s overall effect on the madlang pehpohl is a work in progress as it began only five months ago, on Jan. 1. Train 2 may also be implemented within this year, so, expect the opposition to again offer suggestions to make it more palatable to the Pinoy.

But stopping Train’s progress at this point may only result to confusion as businesses and accountants have already adopted the new tax law.

Remember when red meat was considered as bad for the diet? Now, the ketogenic diet says red meat is okay. So, here’s the dieter going from low-fat to low-carb to no-sugar to no-artificial sweetener as health gurus change their minds every year. Even the popular “An apple a day keeps the doctor away” is morphing into an egg a day keeps the doctor away. So confusing. And the same thing can happen to Train which, by the way, has not exactly stopped people from buying cars, fuel, cigarettes, alcohol, soda and fruit juices, some of the items whose prices have increased due to excise taxes. Call it the Pinoy resilience.

Anyway, if you’re now confused on why a Winnie-the-Pooh movie is titled “Christopher Robin,” here’s unsolicited advice: Read.
