Forty former rebels and their qualified families are currently undergoing basic education, thanks to the Binuliga team composed of Department of Education (DepEd-10) under the Alternative Learning System, Xavier University’s Arrupe Educational Center, E-Clip Committee of Cagayan de Oro City, and the 65th Infantry Batallion of the Philippine Army.
The Binuliga Basic Literacy Program class which started on June 15 and will end in September, is scheduled twice a week at the headquarters of the 65IB at Sitio Patpat, Barangay Mambuaya, Cagayan de Oro City. It is facilitated by the Arrupe Volunteers-ALS Teachers, supported by the said unit and is sponsored by the City Government and DepEd-10.
The curriculum is composed of a set of knowledge and skills and competencies that the learners should develop to meet the minimum requirements of basic education.
Just recently, the members of the team visited and witnessed the result of their intensive efforts on providing basic education for the former rebels and their qualified family members.
Through the program, the students are now able to read slowly, write their names, learned history, and some other knowledge. Not only did they improved intellectually, but they also displayed significant improvement in their behaviors, which will guide them to open their minds for possibilities and future opportunities
The positive feedback from the former rebels and their qualified families make the implementation of the program a success.
