A POLICE official in the city yesterday warned police precinct chiefs here, saying they could be ordered relieved unless they performed well in the campaign against illegal drugs.

Supt. Michael John Deloso, spokesperson of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo), said police officials here have started going over various accomplishment reports so as to evaluate the performance of the police precincts.

“We are seriously looking into the possibility of arresting drug pushers who refuses to respond to ‘Operation Tokhang.’ Kung naa na ilang ngalan diri amo na kini sila nga gipanid-an,” said Deloso.

In July, some 5,000 “drug personalities” from 52 of 80 barangays in the city went to see the police and then promised to mend their ways.

Meanwhile, Bukidnon Gov. Jose Ma. Zubiri handed over to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 14 “drug personalities” in his province yesterday morning.

Hanzel Echavez, chief  for public affairs of the Bukidnon capitol, said the “drug personalities” were from Talakag, Lantapan and Malaybalay who went to see Zubiri in connection with the government’s “Oplan Tokhang” campaign.

All in all, 49 people already responded and promised Zubiri that they would reform since the start of the Duterte administration’s anti-drugs war. Of the 49 responders, 35 were allegedly drug pushers. (lito rulona and nitz arancon)
