POLICE yesterday said the firearms seized from the house of architect Rey Galua during a raid in uptown Cagayan de Oro early this week were being examined to see if these would match with the bullets used in the Dec. 2, 2017 attack that killed University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines president Ricardo Rotoras.
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group earlier said the arrested architect was considered a “person of interest” in the Rotoras case investigation.
Galua is a former USTP faculty member who was behind the design of an unfinished building in the USTP campus. The four-story building project, with a budget of over P200 million, was ordered stopped by the USTP in January 2017, a month after Galua’s employment with the university ended.
But authorities have nothing to directly link Galua to the December 2017 gun attack and so, they refer to the architect as a mere “person of interest”.
Chief Insp. Mardy Hortilloza, spokesperson of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office, said, “Kung mag-match lang ang armas sa mga nakuha nga evidence, then dako na nga kasulbaran.”
Hortilloza said the police were expecting “more developments” in the coming days.
