CRIME scene investigators expressed alarm over a seeming pattern in the series of unexplained shooting deaths in the city as villagers stumbled on the body of a man in Barangay Balulang, this city, yesterday morning.

Dr. Christian Caballes, medico legal officer of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco) here, said the victim succumbed to five gunshots–two to the head, two to the back, and another to the shoulder.

The victim remained unidentified at presstime but Caballes said the killing and previous shooting deaths showed a pattern.

Police said it would be difficult to identify the victim because bullets disfigured his face. There were no identifying marks in the body like tattoos or birthmarks.

The victim, who was between 21 to 30 years, had no identification card, police said.

Caballes said the victim was shot at pointblank range with a caliber .45 pistol, and died between 1 am to 3 am yesterday.

But Caballas noted that the victim died the way other victims of shootings in the past were killed–the bodies were wrapped, and a specific type of masking tape was used.

SPO3 Leonilo Laquio of the Carmen police said the victim was hogtied, and then wrapped with a masking tape.

Laquio said the victim had a fair complexion, was slim, “chinito,” and stood around five feet and seven inches. He said the victim wore a yellow t-shirt, green short cargo pants with a green belt, and had red and silver earrings.

Police said the victim was unlikely from Balulang, and that  the body could have been dumped in the area after the killing.
