A COUPLE died after they were ran over by a truck on the highway in Initao town in Misamis Oriental Friday evening.
Initao police deputy commander Lt. Nilo Maderse identified the victims as Tito Tecson Jr., 48, and his wife Ofelia, both residents of Bloomingdale Subdivision in Barangay Iponan, Cagayan de Oro.
Maderse said the two were heading to Cagayan de Oro from Iligan City but met the accident at the Lasang Park section of the highway.
He said the accident happened on a curved portion of the highway after Tecson tried to get past the truck.
“Nag-una ang prime mover truck nila apan mi overtake sila (victims) satoo nga bahin. Sa dihang mubalik na unta sila sailang lane midigyas ang ligid sa motor kay naay area diha sa dalan nga dili even, mao tong natumba sila ug naligsan,” said Maderse.
Ofelia died on the spot while Tito was still breathing when rushed to Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) where he was declared dead hours later.
Rey Oran, the truck driver of Bagong Taas, Valencia city, Bukidnon, is now temporarily detained at Initao police station cell.
He will be facing reckless imprudence resulting to double homicide according to Maderse.
