Egay Uy .

THERE are points in our lives that we become too arrogant that we begin to believe that we are the only solution to the ills of this planet.

According to Jim Rohn, an American entrepreneur, author, and motivational speaker, we must “focus on the solution, not on the problem.” On the other hand, Sri Chinmoy, a prolific poet, musician, artist, a weightlifter, and a spiritual teacher who established meditation centers around the world, said, “Do not blame the world.  Find a solution.”

A more striking one is from an anonymous source who said, “When you find no solution to a problem, it’s probably not a problem to be solved but rather a truth to be accepted.”

I admire the candor and humility of Dr. Felix Borres who, as reported in this paper, advised another mayoralty candidate who lost to accept defeat rather than blame voters for the rejection, and to just prepare for 2022 instead of being a sore loser.

The candid Felix was quoted as saying, “Magpuyo lang siya kay mapilde gyud siya kay wala may agi.”  He was also reported as saying that candidates like him should not feel sorry for their loss and just laugh the experience off instead of looking for someone or something to blame. Hats off to you, Felix.

Believe it or not, Felix also revealed that he received quite a phoneload of angry text messages presumably from people who were rooting for other candidates because the messages were reportedly mad at him for practically endorsing the candidacy of Mayor Oscar Moreno during the Lihuk forum at Xavier University.

He was quoted as saying, “Grabing sukoa sa mga tawo, awas-awas gud ang akong cellphone sa kadaghan sa mga messages kay ngano kunong akong gisuportahan si Mayor Moreno.”

The Halalan 2019 webpage of ABS-CBN posted the unofficial results aggregated from Comelec data as of May 21, and from 100 percent of election returns. The post shows that Felix Borres received 1,011 votes compared to the fourth and last ranking candidate who had 1,000 votes.

As we know, Mayor Moreno was overwhelmingly re-elected by 159,172 voters or 63 percent of the votes cast.  His closest rival but in dismal second place only got 36 percent of the votes cast. In far third is Felix Borres and the last-ranking and farthest among the four candidates only got 1,000 votes.

It really pays to be humble.  Hypothetically and God forbid, if an incapacitating incident happened to Mayor Moreno and his closest rival at a time when substitution was no longer possible, the humble Felix would have become mayor of the city.

I know editor Herbie is grinning.
