REP. Juliette Uy of Misamis Oriental’s 2nd District over the weekend declared she would remain independent even as she brushed off any possibility of her tying up with with administration parties, including the Padayon Pilipino.

Uy said she would remain with the National Unity Party (NUP), a group organized by former members of the Lakas-Kampi-CMD that eventually became a part of the Liberal Party-led coalition in the Lower House during the previous administration.

The congresswoman said she has no plans of forging political ties or alliances with the Emano family-led Padayon Pilipino or the administration PDP-Laban the way other local politicians did.

She said she finds it difficult to adapt to the culture of other political parties and so, she would rather remain independent and stick it out with the NUP.

But Uy said local political groups that supposedly forged alliances have yet to demonstrate that they can sustain their coalitions.

“Sa politika, maayo man gyud ang magkahiusa kung ang tumong kaayohan sa tanan. So, ato lang tan-awun kung tinuod ba na or kung ma-sustain ba na,” said Uy.

Uy cited the case of the Gungonas who have reportedly agreed to become allies of the Padayon Pilipino.

“Kung storyahon nimu ang mga Guingona, wala daw, dili padaw sila kauban. So, dili nako masabot kay ang ilang ingon wala man, independent man gihapon sila,” she said.

Uy also revealed her plans to seek another office term as a Misamis Oriental representative. She said she has no plans of seeking the governorship.

“Mas maayo nga akong tiwason akong third term kung buligan ko sa katawhan sa 2nd District,” she said .

She said she could not say if her husband, former vice governor Julio Uy, would run for governor again. But if ever he runs for the province’s top post, Uy said, “Kaya man niya mag-independent.”

Meanwhile, Rep. Uy said she doubts if the cracks in the ties of President Duterte’s daughter Sara and Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez would cost the latter the speakership.

Uy cited an April 28 gathering where President Duterte told the crowd that “Speaker Alvarez is still my Speaker.”

She said whatever caused the apparent rift was a personal matter between the Davao mayor and Alvarez.

Uy said Alvarez is outspoken and  may have said things that hurt Mayor Duterte-Carpio. She said Duterte-Carpio was sensitive and “ang gamay nga isyu nagdako.”
