PROVINCIAL board member Jerry Khu yesterday took Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano’s dare for him to manage the capitol-owned Vicente de Lara Park, saying he sees that as an opportunity to beautify the park.

Khu said this hours after Emano told a crowd at the capitol grounds during a flag-raising program that he would be giving the provincial board members the “keys” and give him the responsibility of managing the park.

Khu and other provincial board members have questioned why the capitol park was closed to the general public until now. He said he wanted to do his morning exercises at the park but could not do so because it has remained closed.

The park was closed to the general public to keep evacuees from Lagonglong, Misamis Oriental, from returning. The evacuees stayed at the park for over a year until capitol officials drove them away when the families attempted to erect structures.

During his speech, Emano said he decided not re-open the capitol park because he was waiting for the green light of police provincial director Col. Robert Bahian.

“Sukad nga nagobernador ko diri, wa ko kakita nga nag walking na sya diri,” said Emano, referring to Khu. “Kung gusto nimo buksan, ikaw mag-abri, ikaw magsira. Siya na mag-in charge. Akong ihatag sa iya ang yabi.”

At the provincial board, Khu said, “Mas maayo nga kung ang board member mag-abri sa buntag, ang gobernador unta mag-sira sa gabie aron makita nya unsaon pagpatsada sa kapitolyo. Magsabot mi.”

Khu said he was glad that Emano was willing to give him the task, and that he would not decline.

“Dili ko kana balibaran ako kuno mag-abri ug magsira. Natingala ko kung abrihan, nganong naa may yabi?” he asked rhetorically.

Provincial board member Gerardo Sabal said Emano was merely pointing out the need to keep the capitol park secure, explaining that the decision to close it to the general public was on the recommendation of the police.

Sabal said Emano was willing to issue an executive order to reopen the park on the condition that Khu would take full responsibility.

“Kung gusto siya matuman iyang gusto, siya ang magdala sa Vicente de Lara Park,” Sabal said.
