REP. Rolando Uy of the city’s 1st District was a no-show as the Liberal Party’s candidates for city council seats filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) yesterday morning.

The Padayon Pilipino candidates also filed their COCs later in the afternoon with their leader, ex-mayor Vicente Emano, showing up at the city office of the Commission on Elections.

Mayor Oscar Moreno, who filed his COC on Tuesday ahead of the LP candidates for councilors, accompanied his bets from the St. Augustine Cathedral to the Comelec office on Burgos St..

Also joining the LP candidates for the city council were Moreno’s running mate and Rep. Uy’s son Rainier Joaquin, and ex-councilor Edgar Cabanlas who is running for congressman in the 2nd District.

Moreno, Cabanlas and the two Uys filed their certificates of candidacy Oct. 13 on the belief that the day would bring them good luck based on feng shui principles.

Moreno said Rep. Uy begged off because he had to be with his wife Lorna who has undergone surgery in Manila.

“Let’s pray for Lorna. Congressman Klarex is taking care of her now in Manila,” Moreno told a crowd at the cathedral.

After hearing mass officiated by Msgr. Precious Cabunoc, the LP candidates for councilors, accompanied by Moreno and their supporters, trooped to the Comelec office at around 9:30 am.

The LP candidates for the city council who filed their COCs are Councilor Zaldy Ocon, former Canitoan barangay chair Marlyn Lagumen, George Goking, Reuben Daba, Balulang barangay chairman Alfredo Carcosa, Remeo Calizo, Tignapoloan barangay chairman Jay Pascual, and Iponan barangay councilor Don-don Allorin for the 1st District;

Former Misamis Oriental vice governor Norris Babiera, Dale Mordeno, Nixon Baban, Cecilio Pacana, Ermin Pimentel, Josefina Bacal,  Roger Villazorda, and Lourdes  Malou Gaane for the 2nd District.

Meanwhile, former mayor Emano filed his COC for mayor at 2:28 pm after hearing mass at Fatima Chapel on Velez St..

He emerged from a black pick-up truck on Burgos St. and walked a few meters to the Comelec office. Other Padayon Pilipino candidates and many of his supporters greeted the ex-mayor.

The former mayor, who was in the intensive care unit of the Capitol University Medical City a few weeks back, lighted a cigarette stick, talked with his supporters before entering the Comelec office. It was obvious he lost weight.

Emano told reporters he was ready to face Mayor Moreno and Rep. Rodriguez.

After submitting his papers, Emano posed for photographers along with other Padayon Pilipino candidates, waved at his supporters, and left the Comelec office.

Emano’s running mate, reelectionist Vice Mayor Caesar Ian Acenas, filed his COC after Emano.

Councilor Ramon Tabor also filed his COC, and is now an official candidate for congressman in the 2nd District.

The Padayon Pilipino candidates for councilors are ex-councilor Alvin Calingin, Ronnie Waniwan, Lordan  Suan, Councilor Annie Daba, Councilor Edna Dahino, ex-councilor Simeon Licayan, Pedro Balite, and ex-councilor Pepe Abbu for the 1st District;

Councilors Leon Gan and Nadya Elipe, Condrad Lim, Jobert Agcopra, Demotilo Acenas Jr., ex-councilor Ian Nacaya, Suzette Magtajas, and former provincial board member Oscar Musni.

Councilor Alexander Dacer said one of the Padayon Pilipino candidates for councilor, Gigi Go, backed out supposedly because her parents prevented her from running.
