POPULAR television and radio personality Korina Sanchez on Sunday told villagers in Pagatpat, this city, to be wise in selecting the next leader of the nation, and not vote a “thief” into office.

The pronouncement of Sanchez, wife of Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II who is eyeing the country’s top seat in 2016, was seen as an attack on her husband’s likely 2016 rival, Vice President Jejomar Binay, whose family is caught in a web of corruption issues. She however did not name names.

“One of the ‘presidentiables’ is a thief. He should explain and answer the many accusations against him. The bottom line is, voters must not elect a thief. Siyempre, hindi magnanakaw ang asawa ko,” she said. “While one of the ‘presidentiables’ is a thief, in contrast, Mar has never been involved in any anomaly.”

Sanchez was in Barangay Pagatpat to distribute 500 pairs of slippers to impoverished school children, and rice packs and bracelets to adults, a charity work which she regularly features in her ABS-CBN show “Rated K.”
Asked where the slippers came from, Sanchez replied: “Mar Roxas.”

She said it was to instill hope and confidence among school children as well as motivate others to share their “blessings.” Sanchez denied she was campaigning for Roxas but added that among the “presidentiables,” her husband “is the best bet in 2016” given his experience as a congressman, senator, secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry, and now secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government.

She also claimed that the administration Liberal Party and President Aquino were in the process of convincing Sen. Grace Poe to become Roxas’s running mate.

“Pero wala pang desisyon dyan. Kailangan matino at makakasundo niya. Mahaba pa ang oras at so many things can happen. Si Grace Poe dahil hindi siya Liberal pero nag-uusap sila ni Mar at PNoy,” Sanchez said.
