Gov. Emano said he is hopeful the Kuyamis Festival will soon become a household name among regional tourism festivals like those of the Maskara of Bacolod or  Sinulog of Cebu.

“I strongly believed that our total development plan anchored on tourism is attainable and sustainable,” Gov. Emano declared.

Along with some dignitaries from the business and government sector, the governor cut the ceremonial ribbon that signals the opening of exhibit booths, meat and food exhibits.

Most of the exhibit booths sponsored by various municipalies showcased the trourist spots of their own localities and food delicacies mostly made from the coconut.

A tableau presented by provincial government employees showed how the province came to be known as “Misamis.”

At least three municipalities entertained the audience with cultural dances.

One of the highlights in this year’s Kuyamis Festival is the selection of Miss Earth Philippines-Misamis Oriental.

The 14 beauties graced the opening ceremonies. They participated in a motorcade around city streets later in the afternoon.

The week-long celebration will feature nightly entertainment from various tourism clusters while the coronation of Miss Earth Philippines-Misamis Oriental will be held on Saturday night at the capitol grounds. (ADVT)
