The  Council, he said, is of the assessment that there’s still the lingering threat posed by the Maute-Dawlah Islamiya. There’s that threat to the provinces of Lanao Norte, Lanao Sur and even the cities of Iligan and Cagayan de Oro, Dimaporo added.

The martial law that is imposed here in Mindanao is “different” from that imposed during that one imposed by Ferdinand Marcos.

The Council favors of coming up with a “Transition Plan” as the island does away with martial law.

To note, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana has said martial law has long been implemented in Mindanao but whether there is still need for it will be determined in an assessment. To recall, the entire Mindanao has been placed under martial law following the siege of Marawi City from May to October 2017. The third extension will expire December 31 of this year.
