Councilor Teodulfo Lao Jr. said the program was offered by the Misamis Oriental I Rural Electric Service Cooperative (Moresco I) in their franchise area that includes some areas in the city. Under the set-up, Moresco 1 offers free preparation of electrical plans, electrical permits, connection permits and other assistance it could extend to expedite the connection to the beneficiaries.

“I-waive ang tanan bayad for the electrical connection apil tanan permit fees offered to all indigent families,” Lao said.

He said Moresco 1 would immediately facilitate free electrical connection if families can acquire certification of indigency from the barangays.

“Pero ang iyang monthly bill iyang bayaran,” Lao said.

During a committee meeting last week, Moresco 1 representative Edna Putian Django asked support from the city government for the DOE’s program.

The DOE has a program through the distribution utilities to energize 90 percent of households by 2017 to have a sustainable and inclusive growth by providing basic electricity services to all Filipinos.

The DOE has allocated a budget to support the government’s thrust of total electrification by providing grants to increase access to electricity services of eligible “un-electrified” households.

“We hope that other power distribution utilities like Cagayan Electric Power and Light Company will do the same para mawala ang mga flying connections,” Lao said.
