THE rule of law beat the rule of the mob. Should always be the case. Ours is a nation that’s governed by laws, not of men.

After the four-day or so tension at Julio Pacana Street where the Mindanao Station of the Court of Appeals is housed, the rule of law finally wielded the final blow with the special Twenty-Second Division of the CA issuing a Writ of Preliminary Injunction in the consolidated petitions of Mayor Oscar S. Moreno and Dr. Glenn Banez.

What did the mob want to achieve by converging at the CA even to the point of violating the Supreme Court Circular prohibiting rallies within 200 meters from the premises of the courts?

Did the mob want to influence the outcome of the petitions filed by Mayor Moreno and Dr. Banez by pressuring the CA Justices into looking at matters their way?

Funny, but there were reports that those who participated in the mob were told they were going to a 4Ps meeting only to find themselves being used as pawns.  Still some others were candid enough to admit they did not know why they were made to join the mob.

In our government of laws and not of men, the rule of law must always prevail.  This could be the main foundation why Mayor Moreno appeared unfazed by the commotion at Julio Pacana that also disturbed the normal flow of vehicular traffic in that area.

But never mind the disruption caused to motorists and other road users, the mob had to converge possibly on orders of those who want to take over city hall.

However, the justices did not blink, and rightfully so.  It pounced on the last nail saying, “Accordingly, let a writ of preliminary injunction be issued x x x enjoining and preventing the respondent DILG x x x and/or any person assisting it or acting for and in its behalf, from enforcing and implementing the Decision of the respondent Ombudsman x x x.”

That should settle the matter for now.  Let’s let law take its course and abide by what the courts of the land will finally say.

Respect and obey the law.
