A DEPRESSED construction worker and balut vendor took his own life by hanging himself inside his room with a chicken rope in Barangay Lumbia here yesterday morning.

Jupiter Depinde, in his mid to late thirties, was found dead by his mother Rosalla in Dulawon, Lumbia between 5 to 7 am.

Depindi killed himself at a time when his six-year-old son was in the house with him.

Jamil Aguid, Jupiter’s 21-year-old half-brother, said they tried save Jupiter but to no avail.

“I removed the rope but he was gone,” he said.

Rosalla said her son fell into a depression after his partner, 24-year-old Jessan Laba-on, left him. She said her son and Labaon, who is from Barangay Dansolihon, had often quarreled.

“Naa man gud usahay nga tagdugay gauli tong babaye (Labaon) unya pag-abot sa ilang balay hubog pa gyud mao tong mag away sila,” Rosalla said. “Misinggit ko’g tabang kay nahadlok ko nga nagtan-aw niya, nga nagbitay sa pisi.”

She said her son attempted to kill himself twice before yesterday. Two days ago, Depinde tried to drown himself but his companions in the house prevented him from killing himself. Before that, Rosalla said her son tried to jump off a bridge but was stopped by a concerned villager.

Rosalla said she had thought her son was already fine because he was in a good mood when he and his friends had a drinking binge at a neighborhood sari-sari store on Wednesday night.

Shiela Mea Depinde, Jupiter’s cousin, said the suicide was hurt when his partner left with their second child.

“He couldn’t bear it, he just committed suicide,” Shiela Mea said. (Joey Nacalaban and Nitz Arancon)
