THE 1986 People Power veteran may still have his People Power props. Yes, the yellow souvenirs. But that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s still a fan of Ninoy Aquino, Tita Cory and former President Noynoy Aquino.

With the 2019 midterm elections so near, you can almost touch it, expect more yellow versus those colors that tend to sprout out of nowhere.

“But I see your true colors/Shining through,” sang Cyndi Lauper. And that’s true after politicians have finally chosen the colors they want to wear next year. It’s wise to be friendly to all colors, though, because, well, you’ll never know. Politics is a whom-you-know industry where the powers that be can swish and flick magic wands and make things happen, with the most impossible morphing into possible.

In case you’ve been convinced of the seriousness of the war on drugs, for example, try looking around and see if it has also fallen into the dark abyss of whom-you-know. Perhaps you can discuss that with former Special Assistant to the President and now senatoriable Bong Go and ask him to have some malasakit also for victims of mistaken identity. Once some of the truly guilty ones are released, the more they’ll commit crimes, even worse than the last one, since they’re now assured of the magic wand’s power to set them free.

Mocha Uson is also free after President Rody Duterte fired her, er, after she resigned. Fired, resigned—ano ba talaga, Kuya? But it doesn’t matter how she left since she’s now running as representative of AA-Kasosyo partylist which, by the way, was once linked to the pork barrel scam of alleged mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles. Hahay. Here’s unsolicited for Uson: Pagesearch pud ‘pag may time. But what to expect from a blogger whose social-media posts are supposed to be sources of fake news and questionable videos, and even transferred Mount Mayon from Albay to Naga City, Camarines Sur.

As for former Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, he’s running for senator despite what Duterte said: “Ayan sila si Roque, gusto magsenador. Sabi ko: ‘Tama ka na. ‘T*ng-in* diyan. Standby ka. Bigyan kita ibang trabaho. Hindi ka manalo diyan.’”

The absence of Uson and Roque might result to a quiet presidential team with only the president continuing to say it as it is. But then, Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo has replaced Roque as presidential spokesperson, so, Malacanang continues to be colorful.

The yellow party may have only one color—yellow, of course—but it also continues to be colorful as long as Kris Aquino remains with them.

In recent weeks, though, she was in Singapore, not to film a “Crazy Rich Asians” sequel but for medical treatment. A financial betrayal resulted to her sudden weight loss, which proves that not all weight-loss news is good news.

She then posted on Instagram that she has “Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria” which “afflicts less than one percent of the world’s population.”

“Most suffer through it for 1-5 years. Some suffer through it for decades—I fall under that category,” Kris added.

The yellow fan would have wanted Kris to run for senator, but I guess that’s not part of her plans for now.

Meanwhile, all political dynasties from Aparri to Jolo seem convinced they’re God’s gifts to the Pinoy as they dominate the wannabes for next year’s midterm elections. Familiar surnames will be on the ballots again: Duterte, Marcos, Aquino, Roxas, Estrada, Enrile, Binay, Cayetano, ad nauseam. Even Mikey Arroyo, the son of former President and now House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, is back.

The US will also have its midterm elections soon, but it was Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s case that somehow ended up as another version of a man’s tendency to believe that he’s God’s gift to women. He’s lucky for having US President Donald Trump’s steadfast support.

A man can be God’s gift to a woman if that woman likes him. Otherwise, he’s that woman’s nightmare.

Thus, a man should be able to tell a woman’s likes from yikes, and the difference is not as simple as the words’ first letters.

As to how Kavanaugh will judge sexual assault and harassment cases in the future, well, good luck na lang.

The alleged sexual assault, which Christine Blasey Ford accused him of, happened in the ‘80s at a high school party. This could be familiar to other women who also experienced the same from their male schoolmates.

In case you’re curious on the repercussions of such assaults, a female high school student’s trauma resulting from rape is depicted in the Netflix television series, “13 Reasons Why,” where Hannah (Katherine Langford) eventually commits suicide.

In the local scene, it’s not man versus woman, but woman versus woman as ABS-CBN TV Patrol showbiz anchor Gretchen Fullido filed a sexual harassment case against former TV Patrol supervising producer Cheryl Favila, and segment producer Maricar Asprec. So, there are women who believe they’re God’s gift to women. Tsk tsk.

God’s gift or not, the candidates won’t mind as long as they win next year.
