ILIGAN City–Rep. Vicente Belmonte Jr.’s lawyer Rejoice Subejano surrendered to authorities on Tuesday night after he was cited for contempt and ordered placed behind bars by a judge.

Subejano gave himself up to the head of Police Station 4 at around 6:30 pm in Tubod, this city.

“I was not given due process,” he said, adding that he was ordered jailed for “telling the truth.”

Judge Arthur Abundiente of the 4th branch of the Regional Trial Court in Lanao Norte earlier issued a warrant of arrest against Subejano for direct contempt of court.

Subejano was slapped with a 10-day imprisonment and a P2,000-fine.

Supt. Alan Abalde said Subejano would be in safe hands.

Subejano’s arrest was ordered because he allegedly defied the court’s order for all parties in the Regencia case to refrain from discussing it in public, and for criticizing and insulting the judge.
