OWNERS of nearly 3,000 taxis in the city only have until the end of this month to make adjustments in their taxi meters vis-à-vis their new rates, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board regional director Amenodin Guro said.

The new taxi fares would be implemented in consideration of the series of fuel-price increases that affected taxi companies and workers.

Guro said the LTFRB aims to calibrate the meters of 2,680 by the end of the month.

The calibrations have been going on since May 7. The first phase, from May 7 to May 11, was for taxis with license plates ending with 1, 2, and 3; and the second phase, from May 14 to May 18, was for those with plates ending with 4, 6, and 7.

The third phase, starting today until Friday, will be for taxis with license plates ending with 8,9 and 0.

Guro said May 28 to May 31 would be for the rest of the taxis with meters that have yet to be calibrated.

The LTFRB would start slapping drivers and owners of taxis with uncalibrated meters a fine of P200 per day starting June, he said.

The taxi flagdown rate remains at P40 plus P13.50 for every kilometer or P2 per minute as “waiting time” or P2 per minute as “running time.”

(nitz arancon)
