A MAGNITUDE 5.5 earthquake struck General Luna town in Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte at 1:26 pm yesterday.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the temblor’s epicenter was located 70 kilometers southeast of General Luna and had a depth of 11 km.

“Intensity II” was felt in Surigao City. Phivolcs said it expected no damage.

At 2:04 pm, Phivolcs said a magnitude 5 quake occurred 67 km southeast of General Luna.

The agency said it was an aftershock of the 5.5 quake.

Phivolcs recorded 27 other quakes in General Luna on Friday with magnitudes ranging from 1.5 to 4.4. (Mindanews)
