POLICE yesterday pressed charges against a suspected member of the dreaded Batang Mindanao 29 (BM-29) gang who allegedly raped the pregnant sister of his common law wife in Sitio Calacala, Tibasak in Barangay Macasandig on Tuesday evening.

Macasandig police chief Erickson Sabanal filed the rape charges against Ashle Dumpa, 34, before the City Prosecutor’s Office. Police arrested the suspect on Wednesday.

Dumpa’s alleged victim is eight months pregnant.

Sabanal said Dumpa, an alleged BM-29 member, has two warrants of arrest for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act or RA 9165. He said the suspect also has a pending rape case in Zamboanga City.

“The suspect is known to be responsible for a series of theft and robbery cases within our area of responsibility,” he said.

Dumpa, according to Sabanal, was in prison for carnapping in 2002, and has just been released from jail.

Dumpa has strongly denied raping the woman, and maintained that he was with his friends in a drinking spree when the crime was allegedly committed.

“Wala ko nanghilabot ana niya kay mas gwapa pa akong asawa ana niya,” said Dumpa, adding he would never sexually abuse anyone whom he considers a member of his family.

But Dumpa said the allegation was part of a supposed plan of the alleged victim’s family to get rid of him. He said they wanted him and his partner to part ways.
