TWO people were rushed to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) for attempting to kill themselves on separate occasions on Tuesday.

Police said the first was 26-year old Nikki Gumelos of Dipolog City who tried to end his life twice but failed.

Gumelos is struggling for life at the NMMC at presstime.

According to Senior Insp. Ulysses Teves, Gumelos has been acting strange at work, prompting his employer to send him home to rest.

But instead of heading straight home, Teves said, Gumelos went to a sari-sari store near a construction site in Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental, borrowed a scissor and tried to stab himself with it.

Teves said people stopped Gumelos from inflicting more wounds on himself.

Police said Gumelos was treated in a hospital because of his cuts and then sent home. But while in a Dapitan-bound bus, Gumelos reportedly became restless, grabbed the steering wheel, ran to a store, took a kitchen knife, and slit his throat with it.

“Kurat kaayo ang mga pasayro kay human nia nakuha ang kutsilyo kalit lang niya gigulgol ang iyang liog,” Teves said.

Meanwhile, a 29-year old mother was also rushed to the NMMC for stabbing herself at the Agora terminal in Barangay Lapasan following a quarrel with her common law husband.

Police identified the woman as Gina Mamba of Zayas, Barangay Carmen.

Mamba sustained stab wounds in her abdomen.

Police said she stole a kitchen knife from an eatery and stabbed herself with it.

Shawn Rebuyon, her partner, said Mamba did this after he broke up with her for allegedly cheating on him.

Rebuyo said he was against the idea of Mamba moonlighting as a guest relations officer.

“Kalit lang siya mawala kay mo-sideline gyud og trabaho as GRO. Maapasan nlang nako nga naa siyay ka halok nga lalaki,” Rebuyon said.
